4/28/2020 – Update Message from the Elders

Dear Church Family at Grace Bible Church,
This letter is part of our ongoing effort to keep the body informed during this time of separation due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Thank you all for the wonderful job that you are doing as a body in walking along side each other during this unprecedented time! We press forward with confidence knowing that our God reigns.

The elders recently met to discuss how to start moving toward restoring normal life at GBC. We realize that everyone is anxious to be together as soon as is safely possible. We also realize that there are going to be many opinions on what this should look like. It is our desire to honor the Lord in all that we do. That desire includes protecting the health of our congregation, being in submission to the local, state and federal authorities that we are under, and displaying a loving testimony to our neighbors in our community.

This will be a process that will take some time to complete. Rest assured, we understand that there will be those, for a variety of reasons, who will need longer before they feel comfortable joining back in corporate fellowship. We encourage you to wait until you feel it is the right time for you and your family. Accordingly, we will be continuing online services and other options for remote ministry for as long as is needed, even after we are meeting together again.

Governor Little announced on April 23rd a plan for reopening the state. We are pleased that his plan mentions the reopening of places of worship. However, due to the restrictions on size, social distancing and meeting CDC guidelines in stage one, as well as our above mentioned desire to keep our church and community safe from the virus, we will continue meeting virtually until at least stage two which begins May 15th. Know that we will be constantly monitoring this very fluid situation and sending out updates as we approach stage two. It is likely that it will be smaller groups that will be able to start meeting first as they will more easily be able to meet the social distancing and size requirements. We will communicate all opportunities as they become available.

Please continue in prayer and support of one another. Pray for wisdom for the elders as well as for the leaders of our country. Please know that the elders are available if you have any concerns or needs.
In closing, the words of John seem appropriate. “I had many things to write, but I do not wish to write to you with pen and ink; but I hope to see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face.”
