Purpose of Home Groups
Home groups provide settings for Bible study and discussion, prayer support, encouragement and ministry. They form the basis for meaningful spiritual growth and significant relationships with other believers.
Study Scripture
The main objective of this ministry is to provide a small group setting where the Scriptures can be examined, discussed, and applied to our daily lives–thus building us up to maturity, that we might be made complete in Christ. (Colossians 1:28)
Building Relationships
Relationship building involves opening oneself up and being accountable to one another. Christianity is modeled in these groups and each person is a contributor or participant who adds diversity to the body. (Hebrews 10:23-25)
Praying Together
At each study, a time is set aside for sharing praises, requests, and needs with one another and then praying about them. Sometimes the prayer time (or perhaps the entire study) focuses on praising and thanking the Lord for His mercies. (1 Timothy 2:8)
Serving the Body
As people grow in their relationship with Christ, a desire to serve others develops. Home Groups are an avenue for which saints may exercise their spiritual gifts. There are many needs within the body, both physical and spiritual. Serving the body may include serving within the group or serving as a group within the church. (1 Corinthians 12:12-30)
Serving outside of the Body
The fifth element of this ministry is the opportunity to reach outside the local body of the church and minister within the community or abroad. (e.g. Boise Rescue Mission, short term mission, etc.) (James 2:14-17)
